Beetroot Halwa

Ingredients :


For Dosa batter :

3 Cup  Rice                   
1 Cup Urad dal             
1/2 Cup Poha                 
1 Tsp  Fenugreek seed   

For Masala :

3-4 Medium size potato ( Boiled and mashed )
1/4 Cup Onion chopped
1/4 Cup Tomato chopped
1/8 Cup Capsicum chopped
1 Large beetroot grated
9-10 Curry leaves
1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
1 Tsp Red chilli powder
A pinch of Asafoetida
1 Tsp Mustard seeds
4 Tbsp Oil
2 Tbsp Red chutney
Salt to taste

For red chutney:

1/4 Cup Roasted split bengal gram ( daalia )
5-6 Garlic cloves
2-3 Dried red chillies
1/2 Tbsp lemon juice
Salt to taste

Method :

  • Rinse and soaked rice and urad dal for 5-6 hrs or overnight. Add Fenugreek seeds to it.
  • Wash and soaked poha 15 min before grinding the batter.
  • Remove the water and grind all the ingredients into smooth batter
  • Let the batter ferment for about 7-8 hrs.
  • As the batter gets fermented it is been ready for making the dosa.
  • For making red chutney Take a mixer grinder  pot add daalia , garlic cloves, dry red chillies, salt to taste and dry grind it first.
  • Add water to above mixture and grind to fine paste.
  • Add lemon juice and whisk it once.
  • Red chutney for mysore masala dosa is ready.
  • Now for masala, heat up the kadai first.
  • Add oil to it , as the oil heats up add mustard seeds, let it splutter
  • Add asafoetida, curry leaves and chopped onion.
  • Cook onion till the onion changes color slightly.
  • Add chopped tomato again let it cook till it becomes soft and mushy.
  • Now add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt to taste.
  • Mix everything properly, and cook for one min. 
  • Add 2 tbsp red chutney to it and cook for another one min. 
  • Now add chopped capsicum and grated beetroot cover and cook for 4-5 min.
  • Now add boiled and smashed potatoes mix it properly .
  • Add 1/4 cup water to the potato mixture mix it .
  • Cover and cook for another few min.
  • And Masala for mysore masala dosa is ready.
  • Now take a tawa heat it up on medium heat. 
  • Sprinkle some water to reduce the temperature of tawa.
  • Add the batter at the center of the tawa and spread it evenly.
  • With the help of ladle remove the excess batter and make dosa nice & smooth. 
  • Spread some butter on the dosa.   
  • When dosa gets nice browning spread the mysore masala at the center and roll the dosa. 
  • Mysore masala dosa is ready. 
  • Serve it hot with sambar and coconut chutney.
